Getting Started

This decision making tool is for you if you are a woman with an spinal cord injury (SCI) AND you are thinking about a future pregnancy. Our tool is designed to help you and other women who have a SCI think about a future pregnancy. Decision making tools help people make important decisions by giving them information and helping them think through what is important to them. People can also use decision making tools with their health care providers and other people close to them to help them talk about their decision.

We encourage you to use this decision tool at a pace that works for you. There is no right or wrong way to use it! As the saying goes, every journey begins with a first step.

Who made this decision tool?

A team of women with SCI, researchers, and doctors created this decision making tool. We designed this tool with the help of over 80 women with physical disabilities, including SCI, who shared their thoughts and feelings about pregnancy with us. Their stories helped us put together an online survey that 102 women with SCI completed.

Disclaimer

The information in this tool is not a substitute for discussing pregnancy with your health care providers. Everyone’s story is different and every SCI is different.
